Do you know the harmful ingredients are being used in nail polishes? Do you also want to know those ingredients? Here are 5 that we came to know of and you should know too.
As much as I love shopping, I dread and detest the thought of harmful chemicals in cosmetics and other household products. I want to steer clear from all of them, but the question is - can I really do that? I wish I could say yes, because we cannot. The fact is, even brands that claim to be safe and natural are not completely "safe and natural".
The best way we can do this is to be aware (I read ewg.org for that and other articles!) of, spread awareness and TRY to avoid the products if we can and hopefully let the brand know about the same so they could take an action. Talking about harmful chemicals, I always wonder what type of ingredients a nail polish has (before I knew EWG).  I know one nail-polish ingredient being talked about a lot is "Formaldehyde" and that we should choose formaldehyde-free nail polishes. What I didn't know was there are a couple of more (or may be more than that) that we should know -
  1. DBP or Dibutyl Phthalate - Used in bathroom curtains, and nail polishes too. Found to be causing reproductive and developmental growth. Banned in children toys.
  2.  Toluene - High hazard considered by EWG
  3.  Formaldehyde - Carcinogen and environmental pollutant.

Nail Polish Brands known to be free from these three toxic chemicals are-

  • OPI
  • ESSIE
  • WET 'n' WILD
  • American Apparel
  • Sally Hansen

"resin" "camphor"without
  • Priti
  • Tenoverten
  • RGB
  • Chanel
  • Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetcis
  • Deborah Lippmann
  • Zoya
So, now I know what I am (not) looking for in my nail polish ingredient and so do you. The question is what all Indian brands manufacture their nail polishes free of these ingredients and =
Where are ingredients mentioned on a nail-polish?
