5 Things to Do Today at Lotus Indian Restaurant, Charing Cross, London

By Djridings @fivethingsnow

Lotus is a fine dining Indian restaurant in very close to Leicester square, London.

One

Start with a Negroni cocktail and take it to your table. You will then be presented with the most elaborate menu that you will ever see at an Indian restaurant. This is fine Indian dining at its very best. Once sat you will be served a amuse-bouche of mulligatawny soup. This was delightful and full of delicate flavours. At this stage you may fancy some poppadoms – three different varieties will be served as standard with a good tomato chutney.

Two

Next for starters. I chose the fried chicken wing tulips. Wine pairings are available with most dishes and this was paired with a beautifully chilled rose. The wings were served with a homemade tomato chutney. The food was piping hot and unusually but nice to have served on an even hotter plate. The bone was perfect for picking up the wing and dipping into the sauce. All food is explained to you before and when it arrives at your table.

Three

For main course I opted for the 23 Kharat Gold Lamb Shank khorma. This is a first for me and must be unique to London surely? The shank was paired perfectly with a delicious red wine (Graciano, Vina Zorzal, Navarra). If you are vegetarian then there is plenty of choice and a whole section on the menu dedicated to vegetarian food.

Four

Next pudding! Most people forgo dessert at an Indian restaurant.  Not here! Lotus has full menu complete with sweet wine pairings. I ordered the milk cheese dumplings which were superb and delicately flavoured with rose water. The dessert wine chosen for me couldn’t have been better, pink and sparkling (Pink Moscato, Innocent Bystander).  The dumplings were served with a spiced sweet pineapple chutney.

Five

Finish with coffee or an aperitif. This is a black coffee served with a chocolate petit four. The  Sugar is served in a heart shaped dish.
