We've all been there. Extortionate prices to purchase hold luggage for already, this is costing me a small fortune, flights. In a pure stubbornness you decided to simply go for a carry on for your long weekend away. Well, good for you! There is, believe it or not ways to really keep your carry on luggage to a minimum. What can you actually take with you and how can you keep it all to the minimal amount? It's honestly easier than you think, and unlike packing with 25kg and taking far too much, this keeps you actually far more organised.
I have been on a few long weekends where I've not paid for hold luggage and I've managed to only take a cabin bag, but still take all the essentials. It's all about planning. But how do you do this? Firstly make sure you purchase a cabin sized bag or case. I can't stress this enough - make sure it's 100% the right size. I've got a new Samsonite* like the one in the picture above and it's ideal for this trip. I've had Samsonite cases in the past (in fact still have one) and I can rely on them not to fall apart, I'm loving my new one as it not only sturdy, it's quite chic too! But I cannot stress this enough, invest in a decent suitcase if you travel a lot. I used to buy super cheap ones and they'd last a few trips then start either looking worn out or they'd be worn out. 1. Research | It's harder to be spontaneous with packing when you are limited. Unfortunately it is true, so you need to do your homework. What are you going to be doing? This can all dictate the amount of clothing you need.
2. Doubles | Can any of your garments double up for more than one occasion? I.e. can you perhaps take heels to wear with a play suit you'd possibly wear in the day?
3. Minimal | Always remember less is more. You don't always need to pack loads! A lot of the time we pack things we don't need 'just in case'.
4. Plan | Is the weather going to be good the entire time? That might help dictate what you take. So you could take one pair of shorts and three tops. That ways you don't need to pack loads
5. Compact | Buy small toiletry bottle up to 100ml. Remember if you are putting toiletries in your hand luggage they need to have the size printed on them. Also if you roll up your clothing it'll pack better and it means you can fit more in, plus utilise any small spaces to put your smallest items in. Necklaces in your shoes maybe?
There are your 5 easy steps to follow. Also remember most airlines will allow you a handbag and your hand luggage, so items like books, magazines and make up can all be in there, instead of taking space in your suitcase. Try traveling in your heaviest or most awkward to pack items, but my main advice is plan. If you plan well then you should be far more organised towards your clothing and items you'll be needing.
