5 Quick Questions With J.E. Fishman

By Fiafox @SofiaEssen

For my third “5 Quick Questions” mini-interview project, I asked author J.E. Fishman to join me here at Sofia’s Change of Pace. I'm really excited he said, "Sure, why not?" Thank you Mr. Fishman!   5 Quick Questions With J.E. Fishman

J.E. Fishman is most recently author of PRIMACY: A Thriller. Kirkus said, "Fishman is a deft, fluent writer who's great at turning out intricate action scenes." Publishers Weekly called Primacy "an appealing debut thriller." And Library Journal said it was "a strong bet for thriller fans." He divides his time between Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania and New York City. Here is what he had to say to me:What or who inspires you?People who put their shoulders to the wheel every day and overcome great obstacles. Anyone who practices unconditional love. Too many authors to name. When did you first realize you wanted to write more than postcards and letters? When I was in high school I wrote a couple of short stories and shared them with a favorite teacher. This guy had spent World War II hiding in an orphanage, an experience that had made him pretty cynical. Yet my stories -- which had nothing to do with World War II or orphanages -- seemed to move him deeply. It made me think: I can do this.Who, living or dead, fictional or real, would you like to meet and pick their brains for ideas?Living: Philip Roth. Dead: Charles Dickens. Fictional: Philip Marlowe. What advice do you have for aspiring writers?Never take the reader's attention for granted. What are you working on now?A thriller about an improbable character whose life is nearly ruined by the financial machinations of others.
