5 Centimeters Per Second

By Winyeemichelle
Summer crept up on me all of a sudden this year. Wasn't it just yesterday that we were breaking out the winter jackets in June and graciously accepting that England ‘wasn’t made for heat'? And wasn’t it also yesterday that the heatwave hit us and we were all hanging naked outside of our windows with bottles of iced water precariously placed in front of dusty fans and still graciously accepting that England ‘wasn’t made for heat’? Hot damn (excuse the pun) I love opening new posts with weather small talk. #helpmeimbritish
(No really, here’s the accent proof.)
Regardless of whether or not we can cope with heat, summer has truly sneaked up on me and my wardrobe is hugely underprepared. How can I have reached June with just 2 dresses in my repertoire, and past season ones at that?!
Right before I headed to Copenhagen for the week, I nipped into my local New Look (a.k.a. my go-to for holiday haven dressing for its’ affordability but not necessarily for its’ carbon footprint) in the hopes of picking up a sweet summer dress. I’m really working on breaking out of my denim, monochrome gingham, pale pink and white uniform at the moment but it’s proving tricky. I’m envisioning mint green midi skirts, little button-through sundresses in red gingham and something off-shouldered and bright but… here we are with a denim number once more.
This little dress is an absolute DREAM. I’m on the petite side, standing at 5”2, but with perfectly proportioned legs, making it a nightmare to shop for dresses. I picked this Bardot shift number up in my usual size, tried it on and it was just perfect! The neckline is super comfy, the bell sleeves are so cute AND it was only £22.99! I’d planned to team it with sliders but ended up wearing it with my adidas Superstars for a day of blissful strolling through the Botanical Garden. A perfect opportunity to showcase it, non?
There’s something so elegant and refreshingly timeless about the Bardot silhouette that I just love. Coupled with some midwash denim, I can’t wait to wear this dress right the way through the summer… Or at least until I find my dream midi skirt and sundress!
Wearing:
(Denim dress, New Look;
adidas Originals FARM Superstar trainers, ℅ JD Sports;
Celine Trio;
BOSS Orange prescription sunglasses, Specsavers.)
