4 Tips for Your Construction Blog

No matter what industry you’re a part of, there’s a place on the Internet for you. That includes construction, which has recently seen growth in high-paying, high-quality jobs.

But construction is such a large industry that it can be difficult to know how to blog about it well. Fortunately, blogging about construction is similar to working in it — if you start with a solid foundation, your efforts will last a lifetime.

Here are four tips for creating and running a great construction blog.

1. Be personable

One easy way to make your blog stand out from the crowd is to put your personal stamp on it. Write in whatever style you’re comfortable in — what you bring to your blog is what makes your blog unique, because you’re one of a kind.

Be sure to create a bio page where your readers can see your face and learn a bit about you. Remember, people can get straight construction news from the news media, but they’re visiting your blog because, in addition to news, they also want your opinion and analysis.

2. Post before, during, and after photographs

Reading about construction is one thing, but it’s a very visual industry. So be sure and incorporate plenty of photos. Your readers are primarily interested in seeing how things are built, and photos are a quick, clear way to show exactly how a given construction process unfolded.

3. Bring in guest experts

You don’t know it all, and there’s no need to pretend you do. No matter what aspect of construction you’re blogging about, somebody out there is probably an expert at it. So spice up your blog by bringing in a guest commentator whenever you can.

This can take the form of interviews, guest blogging, a question-and-answer column, or more. Bringing in experts not only creates more interesting content for your blog, it also lessens your overall workload.

4. Discuss safety

Safety should be the number-one concern on any construction site. So it should be a primary and regular topic on your blog — something you work into your posts whenever you can.

Fortunately, this shouldn’t be too hard; every aspect of construction has related safety issues. At the end of the day, every construction project needs to be safe and free from injury: It’s a common theme in any discussion of construction, so you shouldn’t have any difficulty returning to it in your commentaries.

The industry may seem more about action than discussion, but there’s still plenty of interest in construction-related blogs. As the industry continues to grow, there’s always going to be a need for new information. With these tips, you can build a blog that’s rock solid.
