4 Mistakes Made While Making French Toast

French toast is the ideal breakfast, especially for kids, as it is power packed with all essential nutrients that we need to start the day.

As simple as it may sound making French toast , there are a few minor aspects that break or break the ideal French toast.

Here are few mistakes that are pretty minor but have a huge impact on how the French toast comes out in the end:

  • Wrong bread or thickness

The bread is the base of the entire French toast. The success of the dish lies in the bread, as it is the bread that holds the custard made of the eggs, sugar and milk.

If you select bread that is too thin, it will only cause the bread to break down in the eggs and milk mixture even before it hits the skillet or frying pan.

Select bread that is not too soft or light. Tough, dry and dense bread will do the trick in soaking up the custard and staying in one piece on the pan.

So remember that the thickness of the bread should not be less than an inch, so that it holds the mixture well.

  • Not seasoning

Eggs and milk will only create custard for the toast. The flavoring of the French toast comes from the actual flavoring that we add to the custard.

So don’t be scared to aggressively season the custard with vanilla, cinnamon or any other spice or flavoring of your choice.

  • Adding too much milk or too less eggs

The ratio of milk and eggs is essential in getting the French toast all perfect.

If you use the wrong ratio you risk your toast not getting cooked or an unpleasant scrambled smell and taste. The ideal ratio is one fourth cup of milk for one egg.

If you don’t like an egg flavor to your French toast, consider adding only yolks of the egg, as it is the egg whites that give eggs it egg taste.

  • Not cooking with oil

Our grandmothers claim to have cooked their French toast in butter. But the fact is that butter has a low burning point due to which you can land up with a burnt mess.

To avoid burning your toast and the butter, mix the fat in the pan with regular cooking oil so that you can get a golden crisp crust on your French toast.

Tuck in to yummy French toast!
