3D Printing – The Key to Your Geekiest Dreams

For those not in the know, 3D printing just flat-out rocks. The future is now people!

Thanks to the development of 3D printers, we are now able to print nearly anything the mind can create. From toys and machine parts to cars and houses, pretty much anything and everything is getting printed somewhere now.

The beautiful thing with 3D printing however, is that geeks worldwide can now create that one special product, that one great thing that fits within their niche that they’ve itched for and wanted for forever. Check out some of these geek inspired 3D printed creations.

A Castle Greyskull birdhouse

Grumpy Cat

Winterfell

Batman Business Card Holder

To go along with this Batman: Arkham Origins Costume

And of course, Yoda Buddha!

Clearly the sky is pretty much the limit when it comes to what can be printed with a 3D printer, and leave it up to us geeks to come up with crazy things!

The one thing I think that’s holding 3D printing back some is that a lot of people actually don’t understand what it means to have something 3D printed. I think it has to do with the word printer. They have it so ingrained in their minds that printer or printing equal ink on paper, that to say something is 3D printed throws them into a bit of a tailspin. They can’t separate themselves from what they already know regarding the uses of a printer. So, for those that are still confused, I turn it to a little thing called Wikipedia, to give a short description/definition of 3D printing:

Three-dimensional printing or 3D printing (also called additive manufacturing) is any of various processes used to make a three-dimensional object.[1] In 3D printing, additive processes are used, in which successive layers of material are laid down under computer control.[2] These objects can be of almost any shape or geometry, and are produced from a 3D model or other electronic data source. A 3D printer is a type of industrial robot.

So there you have it! All those items above, and the zillion different things being created out in the world, were all created layer by layer until voila!

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to see what people come up with!!
