3 Tips for Simple Savings

By Lifecheaply

Take Care of Your Clothes

I own a lot of dark colored items, so I use detergent meant for dark clothing in hopes of helping preserve the many pairs of black pants I own. I also try to avoid washing dark items unless they are actually dirty.

Pay attention to care labels. If the label specifies how an item should be washed or dried, follow directions. It could help extend the life of the item.

Give Store Brands a Chance

Not all of them are subpar. However not all of them are equivalents to their counterparts either. Some store brand items are made by the same name brands that they compete with. Target and Trader Joe’s have a lot of good store brand options when it comes to food.

Plan ahead!

Getting gas: Don’t just settle for the first gas station you pass on the way home because you’re tired, you don’t care, and you’re just ready to be home. Use an app/website like Gas Buddy to check out the cheapest option. When gas varies 20 cents from one side of town to the other, that savings can add up.

Events: Do you like running 5ks or doing other types of events on the weekend? Don’t wait until the last minute to register. The price tends to go up the later you wait to register. If you have commitment issues like me, suck it up, go ahead and register because you know you’re going to do it anyway. Might as well do it now while it’s cheaper!

Shopping list: Seriously, make a list and try to stick to it. Do not roll up to the grocery store with a growling stomach and no grocery list. Things will not end well, and you know it.
