212 Die in Karachi Factory Fire

factory fire in KarachiAt least fifty three people died and over two dozen injured as a result of factory fire in Karachi. According to reports a garments factory at hub river road suddenly caught fire.  It was so intense that it engulfed the whole factory within minutes and did not provide inmates any opportunity to leave the place.Lack of safety mesures and emergency exit left workers struggling for their lives. Four story building lacked fire fighting equipment.

Large number of factory workers are still trapped inside. Many of them jumped from the building to save their lives. Whoe of the fire brigade resources are deployed to fight fire at the factory but are facing numerous difficulties. To add to the wories fire fighting vehicles faced difficulty in refilling as three hydrants in Baldia Town were closed. Reasons of factory fire is not known yet.

People gathered at the tragedy sight in large numbers only to hamper rescue efforts. Fire brigade and other civic agencies were witnessed taking cpontrol of the situstion. Immediate reason of fire is not known yet.

In Pakistan Government agencies has miserably failed to ensure safety standards at workplaces. Most of the factory workers work under very miserable conditions. In a similar incident in Lahore over two dozen poor labourers lost their lives.
