With over 3,000 entries for our Annual College Book Scholarship, this is the third year we've offered this scholarship and with so many entries we decided last minute to choose four special people this year for our book scholarship. With so many entries you can bet our short lists were initially bursting with people we wanted to give scholarships to so it was a difficult process to get it down to four awesome people.

With our scholarship, we offer three honorable mention slots that are awarded $100, and the top winner receives $500.

So with much excitement we announce our first honorable mention!

1st Honorable Mention: Bianca Perito

2016 Goedeker’s Appliances Annual College Book Scholarship 1st Honorable Mention

Bianca Perito will be attending Stetson University in Fall 2016 as an undecided major. She is from Winter Park, Florida and graduated from Winter Park High School.

Here is an excerpt from her essay:

"You're supposed to know what you want to major in and commit to for the rest of your life. You're supposed to apply to colleges and eagerly wait for either that small or large envelope that seems to resemble everyone's dreams. We are taught throughout our lives to commit to a dream even if you don't know that dream.

Reflecting back on my senior year, I would correlate it to myself running around in a mindless wander in a gigantic maze with on exit: you're lost and trying so hard to find the correct path. What college suits me best? When is this assignment due? Wait, it's due tomorrow, so I have to spend all night decorating a science fair board with tears as it's so late and your sentences become incoherent as you're writing a hypothesis that is something of a quality second grade work. You spend hours tirelessly filling out college applications even if you have no idea where you are in that maze. You wait for months, acting as if you're patient, but the truth is that you're on this swaying bridge of nervousness and hesitation. I'm excited that I have no idea what the future holds for me because I can become enchanted, wonderstruck at ideas, beliefs I would have never experienced before.

After all the tribulations in the hypothetical maze of discovering yourself, I finally found a viable path: the path of helping others. I want to impact the world. To be the change. To inspire someone, to motivate individuals to reach their dreams. I want to make a difference. I figure we're all in this maze of bewildered discovery for at least a small period of our lives. I figure I'm not the only one running around like a maniac for not knowing which paths lead to the end. I'll always watch my back and hopefully will only trip a few times. And who knows, maybe one of the trips will lead to the right path."

We wish Bianca all the luck in the world with figuring out her path in college!

Stop by tomorrow to see our second honorable mention!
