2006 Single Cask Nation Girvan 10 Years Review

2006 Single Cask Nation Girvan 10 Years Review is the sixth and final SCN retail release I’ve been able to try and like so many other young grain whiskies that have came before it it’s just… just… well it’s just there. Young grain whisky has an essence to it that can be a bit tough to come to grips with, but it’s one that some people like and some people don’t; I’m in the latter camp.

In Single Cask Nation’s Words: 2006 Single Cask Nation Girvan 10 Years Review

“This cask bottling, distilled in May 2006, spent ten years maturing in a refill ex-Bourbon hogshead. It was bottled at cask strength in September of 2016 at 57.7% ABV. Cask #700079 yielded 252 bottles.

Bright and citrusy with a creamy mouthfeel, luscious candied fruits, hints of pepper, and seasoned oak”

Girvan has been around for about 54 years and not only do they make grain whisky for scotch blenders, but they also make Hendrick’s Gin. It’s also the site of the Ailsa Bay distillery which was built in 2007; it’s a busy little facility. Anyways, on to the 2006 Single Cask Nation Girvan 10 Years review.

Not balanced, medium body and a lightly syrupy feel.

OVERALL
2006 Single Cask Nation Girvan 10 Years has a limited profile, there’s not a lot going on, but you almost expect that with young grain whisky. Water doesn’t help, it just flattens it out and makes it nearly one dimensional. I’m not a big fan of young grain whisky but if you are, and I know there are some fans out there, this could be up your alley. It has all the coconut, caramel and spirit you could ask for.

SCORE: 72/100 (C-)
