142: How to Order Chinese Food in Mandarin Chinese

Hungry? But you have nothing at home which appeals… why not call and order a takeaway? First find the number, call and find out what’s available, then make your order… can you do all this in Mandarin?

Wéi nín hǎo, wǒ xiǎng jiào wài mài.

Hello, I want to order takeaway.

A:好您说。

Hǎo nín shuō.

Okay, go ahead please.

B:一个水煮鱼,一个酸辣土豆丝,一碗米饭。

Yī gè shuǐ zhǔ yú, yī gè suān là tǔ dòu sī, yī wǎn mǐ fàn.

One boiled fish, one spicy sour shredded potato and one bowl of rice.

A:抱歉,水煮鱼今天卖完了。

Bào qiàn, shuǐ zhǔ yú jīn tiān mài wán le.

Sorry, the boiled fish is sold out already.

B:哦,那就要一个鱼香肉丝吧。

Ò, nà jiù yào yī gè yú xiāng ròu sī ba.

Oh, then I want a fish flavoured shredded pork, please.

A:好的。过30分钟您可以来取。

Hǎo de. Guò sān shí fēn zhōng nín kě yǐ lái qǔ.

Okay, you can pick your order up in thirty minutes.

B:好谢谢。再见。

Hǎo xiè xie. Zài jiàn.

Okay, thank you. Bye.

A:再见。
