MOM 620x348 10 SONGS FOR YOUR MOM THIS MOTHERS DAY

It’s Mother’s Day tomorrow – consider this your last minute reminder — and if you’re anything like us, you probably forgot. Because we are the worst children ever and forgot to send our mothers a card and all the flower places are already sold out (lies, we’re all taking our mothers to brunch), we made this sweet, and at times a little saucy, playlist. We love our mommas, and these ten tracks are the ones that show just how much we really care.

1) Coat of Many Colors – Dolly Parton

This song is the perfect way to show your mother that you understand everything she did was full of love and how it made you feel awesome even when kids at school were teasing you. You may not have been as perfect as Dolly at the time and understood that those kids making fun of things your mom gave you were idiots, but you get that now, and that’s what’s most important.

2) Hey Mama – Kanye West

There is no bigger or louder momma’s boy on the planet than Kanye West. Let his words about how amazing his mother was inspire you as you talk to yours this Sunday. Seriously, don’t forget to call your mom — I’m sure Kanye never did.

3) Hey Mami – Sylan Esso

Ok, you caught me. This one is in here just because Sylvan Esso is one of our new favorite bands, and it happens to have the word “Mami” in the title. I get one filler song.

4) The Mother We Share - CHVRCHES

Listen, I may not share my mother, but I get that she is the best and most kids are super jealous. That’s not the point of this song, but for today we can all pretend, ok?

5) Mother – Danzig

Ok, ok, ok — this one is a little creepy, sure, but it’s also badass! Your mom was once a super awesome punk rocker (or something), so play this song so she can relive the days before you came and ruined it all.

6) Mother’s Day – Nada Surf

Another exceedingly strange song despite the fact that it’s technically about the day we’re celebrating. I guess… respect women? Also, happy Mother’s Day.

7) Down by the Water – PJ Harvey

Your mom didn’t drown you in a river! Awesome job, mom, thanks!

8) I See My Mother – Polica

I see her across the table from me enjoying a sweet brunch, that’s what I see.

9) Motherlover – The Lonely Island

Mother’s need lovin’ too, especially from Justin Timberlake.

10) Decatur, or, Round of Applause for Your Stepmother! – Sufjan Stevens

A round of applause for all mothers! Seriously though — Mom, I love you, and thanks so much for making me the caustic, music list-making thing I am today. To all the mom’s out there: You’re the best!
