093: How to Suggest Activities in Mandarin Chinese

When people have free time they often like to do something—maybe go out or stay in. If they plan to go out, who will suggest where to go and what to do? Learn how to make suggestions or listen and understand whilst someone else does!

Dialogue:

A:今天晚上你想干嘛?Jīntiān wǎnshàng nǐ xiǎng gàn ma?

What do you want to do tonight?

B:嗯……不知道。En……bù zhīdào.

Er… I have no idea

A:咱们在家看电视好么?Zánmen zàijiā kàn diànshì hǎo me?

Shall we just stay in and watch TV at home?

B嗯……不想看。要不咱们出去吧?En……bùxiǎng kàn. Yào bù zánmen chūqù ba?

No. How about we go out?

A:哦好啊。那咱们去喝一杯怎么样?Ó hǎo a. Nà zánmen qù hè yībēi zěnme yàng?

Good. Shall we go out to have a drink?

B:嗯……没兴趣。En……méi xìngqù.

No, not interesting

A:对了,要不咱们去吃新开的那家意大利餐厅吧?

Oh right, so why don’t we go to that new Italian restaurant?

B:哎好主意,咱们走吧。Duìle, yào bù zánmen qù chī xīn kāi dì nà jiā yìdàlì cāntīng ba?

Great idea. Let’s go!
